Aaron J. Contreras

Aaron J. Contreras was so devoted to family that he chose to fly a helicopter rather than his dream craft, a fixed-wing airplane, because helicopters were deployed less often.
Contreras, 31, of Sherwood and based at Camp Pendleton, was killed March 30, 2003, in a helicopter crash in Iraq. He is survived by his wife, Janelle, and three children.
"Something about getting up in the air just captivated him," said his father, Edward Contreras.
