Brennan Gibson

Shortly after Brennan Gibson became a father, he left in October 2006 for duty in Iraq.

He was killed in Iraq before year’s end.

Gibson, a graduate of Thurston High School and Oregon State University, was killed with two other soldiers when a roadside bomb struck his Humvee as it was heading back to their base near Baghdad.

After graduating from high school in 1997, Gibson attended Oregon State University, graduating in 2003 with a bachelor of science in art, with a special focus on graphic design. He was a member of Theta Chi fraternity.

Pastor Ken Brown, a family spokesperson, told the Associated Press that Gibson was "one of those guys that whatever he does, he equips himself to do it well.

"He was going to be a father, and he was so looking forward to that," Brown said.

Thank you for your service to our country, Brennan. My heart goes out to your family; their sorrow overwhelms. But I know we do not grieve as those who have no hope, and I pray for God's comfort and peace to surround all who knew and loved you.
